Discussion:
[ITM6] tacmd login fails on TEMS (User Validation is ON)

I am running into weird problem.

The HUB TEMS is installed and working fine, there are several Remote
TEMS, TEPS on separate box, WPA box + several agents. Everything is OK
as long as you use TEP GUI.

But trying to use tacmd (locally on HUB TEMS) fails:

D:\>tacmd login -s hubtems -u sysadmin

Password?

Validating user...

KUIC02013E: The software did not run the command because of a internal
system error. Contact the system administrator.

D:\>tacmd login -s localhost -u sysadmin

Password?

Validating user...

KUIC02013E: The software did not run the command because of a internal
system error. Contact the system administrator.

Nothing in any of the logs on TEMS.

The user ID "sysadmin" is local Windows account on hubtems (Windows 2003
SP1).

I verified password - password is correct.

I researched the IBM support knowledge base + google = nothing ...

ITM6 FP03 installed fresh (from FP03 media).

Where do I need to dig to find out what is wrong?

Thanks,

tacmd login will create a "session" security file in
%USERPROFILE%\.tacmd_%USERNAME%.sec on windows platforms. Can you write to
this location?

What shows up in the logs? Anything useful?

Here is an article on tracing tacmd:

Hi Zhytkou,

Default directory for ITM61 GSKit is on c:\ I think.. ( I am not very
sure.. )

you can check ICCRTE_DIR variable in KNTENV file and see if it points
to the right directory and subdirectory where GSKIT is installed and
running from.. once It is checked and verified you can bounce TEMS ( or
restart the server also so that all the process comes up as required.. )
and try to login and see if it works like..

Is it something hardcoded in the app that GSKIT must be on C:\ ?
After that section in the log – it just finalizes response and quits.

Hi Zhytkou,

You could check the following..

kuiras1.log and see if you get to see any error message.

also as you say u have several remote TEMS.. so if possible u can check
this user ID is created on all other TEMS and check Primary TEMS is
up and try again like.. or try bouncing Primary TEMS and try..

can you pls tell from where you are executing tacmd command ( HUB_TEMS /
Remote TEMS or from TEPS )

Interesting ....
It was not the choice during installation.
Since we chose to install everything on D:\ drive - the installer
automatically "assumed" that it should install GSKIT into "D:\Program
Files\IBM\GSK7"

It could be a bug in ITM6.1 FP03 code, because the lab system we have
was installed with ITM6.1 FP01 media originally and upgraded to FP03
later. And though everything is on D:\ it actually installed GSKIT on
C:\ .
I think they "fixed" it in FP03 to the point where it is all messed up
... opening a PMR :(

Hi Zhytkou,

Default directory for ITM61 GSKit is on c:\ I think.. ( I am not
very
sure.. )

you can check ICCRTE_DIR variable in KNTENV file and see if it
points
to the right directory and subdirectory where GSKIT is installed
and
running from.. once It is checked and verified you can bounce TEMS (
or
restart the server also so that all the process comes up as
required.. )
and try to login and see if it works like..

It helped - thanks a lot!!

FYI - IBM's suggestion is to copy D:\Program Files\IBM\GSK7 to
C:\Program Files\IBM\GSK7 .... (did not do it)

I asked the question about on-going support (patches, changes) and how
we are going to manage this with copy on C:\ ... they are still working
on it :-)

Hi Cory,

I feel it is related to Java problem, can you try to execute the
following and then install support for the agents TEMS and see if it
proceeds further..

It is step 9 b ( table 10 ) of the ITM Intall FP 03 guide.. "java
-jar directory\CD-ROM\setup.jar" as this will launch the application
support installer..

( fyi - also there is an example with full command to install unix OS
agent.. in the same step.. )

Found the fix to the problem.

If the installer hangs all you need to do is copy the "libwinjni.dll" from
the CD-ROM directory to the "C:\program files\IBM\java142\jre\bin"
directory. Once I did this every thing worked just fine.

Many people must have not faced the below problem and hope the below
questions are challenging, of course it is chanllenging for avery one.

I have various doubts and issues regarding the ITM, It would be great if
any one could solve the same.

Universal agent issue:

We are running RTEMS and HUB TEMS, all the agents including Universal
agent point to RTEMS, whenever you create a metafile, we need to point the
Universal agent to HUB TEMS and reconfigure back to RTEMS, this is because
ATR and CAT files are not updating the HUB TEMS. How you guys facing this
issue..

Service Console:

When you lauch the Portal web link http://servername:1920. you get a link
for agents , clients and also you get a link called SERVICE CONSOLE, did
any one know what is for this link and can we do any manage of the
agent..Please clarify.

Unix Log:

We have successfully created user log in Unix log agent, now the problem
is when we add the format command in kul_configfile and TEP Portal shows
the log entry of only which are mentioned in the KUL_CONFIGFILE, the old
system log files are not displaying. Can we have the view of both the log
files like existing system log file and user log files.

Nope, IBM did not give any other options.
I did a brute force search (grep) through the entire D:\ for any text or
binary file that might contain "C:\Program Files\IBM\GSK7" string (case
insensitive) and found only KUIENV file.
That, of course, does not guarantee anything, but we might get away with
just modifying KUIENV.

Well ... after modifying that KUIENV file everything started to work ...
I did not even have to restart TEMS. That was on HUB TEMS.
I checked all RTEMS servers, WPA server and TEPS server - they all have
the same issue (KUIENV file pointing to C:\ for GSKIT).
I am going to fix them all by modifying that file.
The kuiras1.log shows no errors and it shows things were picked up
properly from D:\ for GSKIT:

Hi Zhytkou,

You could check the following..

kuiras1.log and see if you get to see any error message.

also as you say u have several remote TEMS.. so if possible u can
check
this user ID is created on all other TEMS and check Primary TEMS is
up and try again like.. or try bouncing Primary TEMS and try..

can you pls tell from where you are executing tacmd command (
HUB_TEMS /
Remote TEMS or from TEPS )

Thanking you,

Morning, my ITM 6.1 environment-

TEPS - Win2003, 32bit
TEMS (HUB) - AIX 5.2
TEMS (REM) - AIX 5.2

I have deployed the Monitoring Agent for 5.X in my Tivoli environment,
and noted that the UNIX servers are reporting to the TEPS just fine.
The issue I'm having is, NO windows ep's running Resource models are
reporting into the TEPS.

Have all the components installed (Component Services, Mon. Agent for
5.x) on the TMR and the Gateways and have executed the witm61agt and
wdmepconfig and restarted the engine on several windows endpoints to no
avail?

Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be occurring?

Thanx in advance.

This has to do with a security policy that is active. You have to adjust
or disable "Impresionate a client after authentication" in the User
Rights assignment.

If you choose to adjust make sure that you add the correct user that is
used when you are intstalling the software.
This is a flaw in the installshield used by the JRE of IBM.

Hi,

UA-issue:

We have contacted IBM in the past for this. Their response is that you
need to copy the ATR and CAT file manually. They can be easy identified
by the first 3 letters of UA //NAME attribute, followed by the type,
CAT or ATR, then followed by the version of your UA-application (should
you have changed some specific things in the metafile)
Up till now I don't have knowledge of the fact that this happens
automatically between RTEMS and TEMS

Service Console:

To my opinion: Leave those ase they are. These still date from the
Candle-age. Don't know if these will still be present once the Blue-wash
is completed.

As for the UX log, I'm don't have any experience with that.

regards,
Geoff

Many people must have not faced the below problem and hope the below
questions are challenging, of course it is chanllenging for avery one.

I have various doubts and issues regarding the ITM, It would be great if
any one could solve the same.

Universal agent issue:

We are running RTEMS and HUB TEMS, all the agents including Universal
agent point to RTEMS, whenever you create a metafile, we need to point
the Universal agent to HUB TEMS and reconfigure back to RTEMS, this is
because ATR and CAT files are not updating the HUB TEMS. How you guys
facing this issue..

Service Console:

When you lauch the Portal web link http://servername:1920. you get a
link for agents , clients and also you get a link called SERVICE
CONSOLE, did any one know what is for this link and can we do any manage
of the agent..Please clarify.

Unix Log:

We have successfully created user log in Unix log agent, now the problem
is when we add the format command in kul_configfile and TEP Portal shows
the log entry of only which are mentioned in the KUL_CONFIGFILE, the old
system log files are not displaying. Can we have the view of both the
log files like existing system log file and user log files.
